JCOTTER182James F. Cotter, founder and President, established himself over 50 years ago in Walla Walla, Washington while attending Walla Walla College. As an industrious young college student James began his legacy by developing and building affordable homes for local residents. As time went on and his knowledge increased, James believed he could redevelop the Walla Walla city bus line by allowing patrons to ride “free of charge” to the stores of their choice as long as the stores validated their bus fare. Soon the failing bus line became a profitable endeavor and turned out to be only the beginning for James.

After graduating from Walla Walla College, James moved to Northern California where he began developing and operating Nursing Homes. During this time James played a crucial part in negotiating and developing senior health care legislation in California alongside former governors Jerry Brown and Ronald Reagan. While operating Cotter Health Centers, James developed his single facility operation into a 40 nursing home facility. Cotter Health Centers employed more than 2,200 full-time employees at its prime. Although senior healthcare was an important stepping stone in James success his real passions remained in real estate.

As a Licensed Contractor his passion for construction and commercial real estate are prominent.

Throughout his lifetime James has been involved in development and construction of: single family residences, multi-family housing, residential subdivisions, commercial offices, medical office complexes, and multi-use shopping centers. His latest project included “The Garden Villas” located in Chico, California which was honored by the City of Chico with the “Golden Rose Award” as a superior development.

Today, Mr. Cotter continues to serve as President of the company while maintaining his long term strategy of purchasing and holding properties, increasing their value through efficient and effective management, and implementation of strict maintenance guidelines. He and his three sons currently operate and manage over 2,800,000 square feet of commercial office and retail space in five states including: California, Texas, Idaho, Oklahoma and Washington.

Aside from his other affairs, Mr. Cotter operates and manages over 1,000 acres of almond and walnut farms.
